- Diet – there is a lot of speculation as to the exact effect your diet has on your acne. Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and don’t forget to drink at least 8 glasses of quality water every day to help eliminate those toxins
- Skin care regime – it is important to cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin every day, preferably twice every day. Treat your skin like it is a delicate material so avoid vigorous rubbing or scrubbing. Apply a warm wash cloth to your face and then gently apply the cleanser. Wash cleanser off thoroughly and wait at least one minute before applying toner. This allows your skin time to absorb the effects of the cleanser. Apply the toner with a cotton wool ball or make up pad. Wait at least one minute before gently applying moisturizer.
- Skin medication – Always strictly follow the instructions on all acne products. Most products take approximately 4-6 weeks before you will see positive results. In the first couple of weeks your skin may actually appear worse, before it begins to improve but hang in there. Don’t give up on products too early. I would suggest you try to use products that a naturally based without heavy chemicals. There are a lot of products on the market that can help but always read the list of ingredients and educate yourself on the long term implications.
- Touching the skin – I know it is challenging but try not to pop, squeeze or touch your pimples or acne. Even touching your face could spread bacteria and make your skin worse. If you absolutely can’t resist then ensure your hands, including fingernails, are clean. Also try to take notice of when and where you are when tempted to pick at your skin. This will help you ensure that it is a conscious decision and hopefully you can distract yourself long enough to avoid the urge to touch your acne.
- Sunlight – Despite what many people think, exposing your skin to too much sun will not help your acne. All this will do is add sun damage to your list of skin vices. Small doses of sunlight early in the morning or late in the afternoon with appropriate sun protection should fulfill your sun craving without destroying your skin.
- Persevere – Acne is a stubborn and challenging condition that requires lots of persistence and perseverance. Don’t give up on you or your skin. If you are not satisfied with the improvement of your skin then seek advice from your doctor, pharmacist or dermatologist.
